PFU is the manufacturer of the document scanner ScanSnap and the keyboard HHKB (Happy Hacking Keyboard). Ricoh has made PFU a subsidiary.
I was so happy when I heard this news. I was thinking of buying a second HKKB keyboard, and I had a feeling that this was the perfect opportunity.
People who use the HHKB series or know about this keyboard are likely to be programmers or other professionals who use the keyboard a lot every day, or people who write as a hobby. And the HHKB is the ultimate keyboard,
as a result of pursuing the ultimate in keyboards, such as "ease of typing," "feel of typing," "no fatigue even after long periods of use," "style," and "portability."
But it's just too expensive!
I understand that "good things are valuable."
But...
I also like the HHKB.
「Professional HYBRID Type-S Japanese layout (black))」
I own one. I had heard rumors for a few years that "HKKB" was the best, so I wanted to get one someday. Then, when this new hybrid machine was released, I took the plunge and bought it.
When I tried using "HKKB", I found that it was indeed the best "typing experience"!
I don't know how to describe it, but the feeling that "the keys stick to your fingers as you type" is irresistible, and it's so good that it's addictive!
I'm writing this about "HHKB" in such an arrogant way, but I can't even touch type at all when typing on the keyboard. Because of this, if the keyboard is printed in "black ink", I can't read the letters during the day, but even if the lights are on at night, I can't read them because of my farsightedness. It's a sad reality. I guess it means I need to "improve my typing skills", but the quickest way to do this is to improve my typing skills on "HHKB".

I want to buy one.
You might be thinking, "So why not sell the ink and use the money to buy the white?" But I need two HHKBs. That's because I have two self-built computers and need a keyboard for each one. Well, it's a bit extravagant.
And now, in addition to the HHKB, my main computer is made by Archis.
ProgresTouch RETRO TINY(Japanese layout )Silent Red Axis
It's compact, so I can use it without taking up space on my desk, and it's extremely quiet thanks to the silent red switches made by Cherry. However, the typing feel isn't great for me.
The keycaps are made of ABS resin, so they feel "hard." They don't have the "sticky" feeling of the HHKB, and in a good way they have a mechanical feel. And the silent red switches have a "squishy" feeling of being pressed down and the pressure you apply when pressing them feels heavy, so as my physical strength and muscle power have declined, fatigue accumulates. That stress and fatigue makes me lose the energy to type, and it also gets in the way of my thinking.
So, I want a second HHKB. At this point, some of you may be wondering, what happened to the Topre keyboard?
Yes, before I bought the HHKB, I was using Topre keyboards.
REALFOCE R2ーP4ーBK
I was using this. It's a full-size keyboard with a numeric keypad, and it's not a silent model.
When the R2 was released, I bought this because I really wanted a REALFOCE, even though the silent model was scheduled to be released in a few months. I used it for about three years, but to make better use of the space on my desk, I changed it to the Archis model I mentioned earlier.
Topre's model was also a good candidate.
REALFORCE R2 テンキーレス「PFU Limited Edition」 PZ-R2TLSA-JP4-BK
I did consider that, but the size was a problem.
So, I wrote a long story about why I wanted an HHKB, which may not be of any importance to other people, but the main point is that I wanted to somehow get an HHKB at a cheap price.
And that is the good news of Ricoh making PFU a subsidiary.
If you are interested in stocks, you may know that when you buy stocks, you can get the right to "shareholder benefits." As a shareholder right, you can receive dividends, and if the company whose stock you bought from has a benefit program, you can get the company's products for free. (I think most people probably know this.)
Twice a year, Ricoh offers shareholder benefits, which allow you to purchase its own products at a special price. For example, last time, you could buy Ricoh cameras at a discounted price. This means that there is a good chance that the HHKB will also be eligible for the benefit!
Therefore, in order to get the benefit, you must have at least the unit number of shares (most stocks are in units of 100 shares). However, Ricoh shares are generous and you can get the rights with just one share. Also, to get the rights, you must buy the shares by the end of March or the end of September.
The March rights have already passed, so I can't get them, but I bought one share early in preparation for September.
I bought it through LINE Securities, and the stock price of Ricoh (stock code 7752) was 956 yen at the time of purchase, so the purchase price was
956 x 1 = 956 yen.
If you can buy shares for less than 1,000 yen and the discount on ``HHKB'' is 1,000 yen or more,
``Oh, it's a bargain♡''
A discount of about 1,000 yen is not as good as a time sale on Amazon, but I'm excited now that I think it's probably worth it.
After the general shareholders' meeting is held around June, the March shareholders' benefits will be implemented, so if you're aiming for ``HHKB'', why not wait to see if there will be a discount then and then consider purchasing shares.
